Summary: A goddess ponders her fate and wonders who could be responsible.

The goddess pushed against the top of the pithos jar, struggling to break free. But it was no use. The magic held her firmly in place. Whoever had fashioned this prison knew what they were doing. She spent enough time trying to discern who was responsible. The strength of the spell suggested an immortal. Crete had welcomed many pantheons at its trading docks, some just passing through and others staying. She hadn't begrudged those gods from other lands. After all, she was still regarded as her island's mother goddess. But others were not so understanding. Their land, their gods, their ways -- that was all that mattered. So had the God War erupted because of such a simple dispute.

So she contemplated the ones she knew. It was tempting to blame Poseidon. He'd taken great merriment in trying to seduce her once. Everyone knew how the Olympians were when they didn't get their way… but this wasn't his brand of punishment. He'd as likely turn her into some sea monster than imprison her. His wrath had caused the great destruction of Crete, splitting the earth into so many pieces, that much she was certain.

Hephaestus' magic was certainly strong enough. He stayed resolutely neutral in the God War, but he could be swayed for the right reason. Whatever her issues with the Greek pantheon (and she had them to be sure), she couldn't recall causing such serious offense to the any other Olympians. Had they locked her away for some other reason? Controlling Crete would cement the mainland's dominance, but they would have to tread carefully.

Or perhaps another player was involved. The Egyptians and Phoenicians often visited her island. Their magic was unusual enough, though, she was certain she'd recognize its marks. Thoth was a little too dusty and academic in his spellcasting, but Kotharr was subtle. She'd been fooled once by Phoenician illusions. She'd learned to be more careful since. Had he intended to spirit her away?

No, this spell felt familiar somehow, closer to home. That implied a more complicated motive, one she couldn't begin to fathom.

She could wait. She was a patient woman. She'd lasted this long, had she not?
