nanonano: (nano 08)
I won again.

Yes, this makes number seven in a row for me. I've participated in Nano every year since 2002. And never lost. That's something I'm damn proud of.

This year was the usual struggle. I righted myself about four days in when I realized I couldn't write teenagers as my main POVs. So I jostled things around a little. But I still had pieces left over from the original version. Did I have enough? Could I still win?

This morning I dumped all of the story I had into a massive doc file. To this moment, I really don't know how much I wrote today. I'm a little scared to find out. The spreadsheet said 1400 words but it was probably closer to twice that, even with reusing/retrofitting old scenes. And I'm nowhere near done with the actual story. Pretty nifty feat all things considered.

I also completed [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo. I don't know what the final count for that will be yet. I'm undecided about next year. I may take a year off to try out the Yuletide challenge. I can't imagine not writing in November. That would be... weird.

The victory is a little bittersweet today with losing [livejournal.com profile] tv_elf. But we managed.

DONE!

There's nothing more frustrating that that last burst before 50K. I was frustratingly close to being done today. And then add insult to injuries the word counters were disagreeing again.

I wrote 50K, but I'm a long way from being done. I'm focusing the rest of November on rewriting that dreaded 14K I hated. Why couldn't I have written some nice *short* introductory chapters instead of these behemoths?

On the bright side, I must thank the Gershwin brothers and Mr. Porter for their music. I had thought I couldn't include some scenes in the past stuff because they were not quite period, but actually I might be able to work them in.

So I'm still writing. At least it has been an interesting ride this time.

WINNER!

Oh my god! I actually finished! *dances around and does virtual cartwheels* And I honestly thought I would bail about halfway through. Or at the very least only finish half of the story in the 50K. I condensed the final battle considerably so I actually finished where I needed to finish. "Which means," to quote Professor Albus Dumbledore, the greatest wizard of Hogwarts, "we need a little change in decoration." With a clap of the hands, several icons and banners fall into place.
